About Tony

Tony has been playing the piano since the age of 14, proving that you’re never too old to start learning. He completed his first Diploma of Music Performance (Jazz/Popular) from the Northern Melbourne Institute of Tafe (VIC) in 1998. After working for many years as a teacher both privately and in various schools in Hobart and Melbourne (including a year teaching English & music in Japan), he returned to complete an Associate Degree in Music Studies from the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania (TAS) in 2006.

During his mid 20’s, Tony spent many years working in Piano bars as a piano/vocalist. But his real passion was always in writing songs. He has been a singer/songwriter for over 25 years, with many songs under his belt. His personal achievements have seen him to do countless musical performances of his material, including a song he arranged, performed & recorded with a large live choir. He was also asked to perform solo (singing & playing) to a large audience at the Itami City Hall in Itami, Japan.

As an accompanist, Tony has worked with many aspiring singers over the years, from singing competitions to Contemporary recitals. He is often the go-to guy when someone needs help with organising band members, arranging or organising music charts, recordings or just help with music theory.

Tony has over 18 years teaching private piano to students of all ages. He truly enjoys teaching, with his speciality being the complete beginner. It doesn’t matter the age of the student, Tony breaks down music to its basics and makes everyone feel at ease. Having studied the language of music for so long, Tony feels that he understands the traps & pitfalls that beginner players often fall into and encourages his students accordingly so that they not only learn to love playing but that they feel a real sense of confidence to tackle music all on their own.

Tony is currently enrolled in his last year of a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts Degree (secondary) at the Australian Catholic University.
